TIMELINE

July-Aug 2024 (4 weeks)

Time constraints make classroom shopping feel burdensome.

Streamlining classroom supply shopping to save teachers time and effort.

Class Cart is an app designed to help teachers easily find and purchase classroom supplies. As the lead designer on Class Cart, I was responsible for crafting a seamless user experience to make the app practical and valuable for teachers, ensuring they can efficiently manage their supply needs.

The Problem & Insight

"I spend so much time hunting down classroom supplies that I often feel like I'm adding to my workload instead of easing it."

My wife is a teacher, so I frequently witness firsthand how difficult shopping for classroom supplies can be.

I decided to take a foray into the world of e-commerce in an attempt to alleviate these pain points she and other educators experience with a more convenient and seamless shopping experience.

The problem at a glance

Educators in the United States are wildly underfunded and often are the schools they work for as well. Even with that, teachers are so dedicated to their students that they reach into their own pockets to fund the much-needed classroom supplies.

My solution to address these issues was to design Class Cart, an app that simplified the shopping experience for teachers by providing an intuitive shopping experience that empowers teachers to efficiently meet their classroom needs.

The start of the solution process

I did a lot of research into how teachers currently went about purchasing supplies, mostly pulling from my own personal access to educators thanks to my wife.

The general consensus was this:

“The sales are where it’s at. Usually ‘Back to School’ events at Target and Walmart have the best deals where we can shop in bulk before the year starts.”

That got me thinking—that sale comes once a year, but the need for supplies can happen at any time, then what?

That’s where Amazon came in.

“Amazon is my go-to for supplies usually. The downside is that it’s a little overwhelming by the sheer volume of inventory. And some things I really need are just not available through them. They’re very generalized.”
